Italy - Week 3 February 2015

Italy - Week 3 - February 5 - 11, 2015

Rained all day. Dreary, cold, and wet. Stayed close to home. Added another 800 words to my Christmas story. Moving along—slowly, but surely.

Rainy and dreary again today. Tonight, I got a super treat! Took an Italian cooking class. “Cooking with Lucas” had slots available for his cooking class. There were four of us and we had the best time!

The menu consisted of:
Pasta e fagioli
Handmade Bigoli with duck sauce
Panna cotta

Great wine, great food, great company. It was a wonderful night and one I’ll hold dear to my heart. Thanks to my daughter-in-law for making it possible!

Market day again. Strolled through the market and returned home to spend a quiet day at home. When there’s a newborn in the house—minority rules. Everyone needed rest today and tonight. Grabbed pizza for dinner tonight. Good Pizza, Good Wine, Good sleep!

Got a special treat today, we drove to the town of Arzignano and participated in a fifteenth century reenactment. We followed the procession down the mountain into town. Along the way, men were  shooting off shotguns along the way (in the opposite direction). I believe several of the men with their shotguns live for this day!

Here’s the particulars of the reenactment:

2015 HISTORICAL COMMEMORATION OF ST. AGATHA - REENACTMENT IN ARZIGNANO CASTLE – VICENZA
With this historical commemoration the Village of Arzignano annually renews its vow to St. Agatha of 1413 when, on the day of St. Agatha, the Hungarian troops finally gave up the siege and left the Castle.

At the Arzignano Castle, Piazzale Vittoria, 13 36071 Arzignano
On Sunday, February 8th:
9:15 a.m.: Votive Procession with fifteenth century original suits, departure from Rocca di Castello, flag-waving and drums.

We arrived at the mountain top just in time to see the procession begin. The Bells were tolling to announce the beginning of the reenactment

Shopping day. Went to the local supermarket to add to my stockpile of items I’m shipping home. Buying unadulterated Flour to make my own pasta. Seems I can eat foods made with regular flour here and the gluten isn’t an issue. So I’m buying flour, creama (cream to make Panna Cotta) –no refrigeration needed! It’s a bit of an issue to get these packed and mailed but I’ll suffer through the effort. I can’t wait to make the Lasagna dish we had during the “Cooking With Lucas” tour.

Took a trip to Nove a town of numerous ceramic shops. Was on a hunt for a Chicken/Rooster Pitcher. Found the perfect one at Nove Ceramics plus the gentlemen there was very nice and packed my purchase very carefully for me to ship back home. It’s always a little scary wondering if your goodies will make it home intact.

Great day. Spent most of the day on post with daughter-in-law and two of the three grandchildren. Went shopping for the remaining items we need to make Lasagna  on Sunday. Trying my hand at the 7 meat specialty. Well, 6 meat. We decided to forego the Mortadella and use extra Italian sausage.

Took a step on the wild side—well at least for me. I made an appointment to get my hair cut. Let the stylist do what he thought would work best. This is the shortest I’ve EVER had my hair. It will take some getting used to, but I like the no-fuss ease. I may have to keep it this short.

Thanks for visiting Italy with me on Lagniappe!

I hope you have a blessed day!

Next week we venture to Verona for the Valentine's Day Festival and Venice for Carnavale. What great timing! My time here is ending and I already feel sad leaving the grandchildren.

Until next week, Ciao!

Readers, thanks for visiting Lagniappe.

I pray you find
"a little something extra"
in each of your days.

Marian
