Tell us about your latest book, Sapphire Secrets

Identical twins…a suspicious death…a family secret. Sapphire Secrets has it all, plus a dash of romance. And Livy is the only one who saw what really happened. If only she could remember…

Also check out its prequel, “When Lyric Met Limerick,” a cute romance. You could call it an appetizer for the main course.

1.     How long have you been writing?

I started and stopped many a book over the years, but really got serious just two and a half years ago, after encouragement from my sister. Since then, I self-published two books - a short story and a novel, finished another novel, and am currently working on two more. Plus I hold down a full-time job!

2.     Where is your favorite place to write?

In my son’s former bedroom, now my writing room.

3.     Do you have any habits while writing?

I like to have a crossword puzzle next to me, and somehow, when I get stuck, it “unsticks” the creative flow.

4.     What genre do you write and how did you choose that genre?

My Hot Topic series is women’s fiction, and Seattle Trilogy is mystery. Because I like to read these genres, I challenged myself to write them as well.

5.     What 3 things do you want us to know about you?

 a.     Dawn V. Cahill is my pen name. Under a pseudonym, I can be as transparent as I need to be when blogging about subjects such as parental abuse. God has used the dark times of my life to encourage others who are broken in the same places as me.

b.  My blog category “Crumpets and Tea” is for single moms to find encouragement in the toughness of their everyday lives. These two posts are my favorites:

c.  I’ve written probably a hundred limericks in my life.

6.     What tips do you have for aspiring authors?

Join writers organizations, get critique partners, improve, study the style of authors you admire and try to analyze what they do well, enter contests and take the judges’ feedback seriously. Most important of all, determine your calling or purpose. Are you called to write, or wired to write? If you have the passion to write, then make the commitment.

7.     What is your next project?

Putting my debut novel out in paperback. Right now it’s only available in Kindle.

CELEBRATING SINGLEDOM

Romantic movies on every station. Boxes of chocolates and heart candies in every store you enter. If you’re single, around every corner, there’s something announcing you’re alone on Valentine’s Day.

As much as we might hate it, sometimes we are meant to be alone. Being single can give you time to become better acquainted with God. According to 1 Corintians 7:34, “…but the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband”. When married, you find yourself dividing your time between God and your family obligations. Whereas, single people have spare time to devote to Jesus.

I know the last thing you want to be is alone on Valentine’s Day when all your friends are coupled. There are several things you can do to get through the holiday.

1.     Form a Bible Study for that evening. Focus on God’s love. There is nothing more powerful or precious.

2.     Join the single people who celebrate International Quirkyalone Day held February 14. First celebrated in 2003 with parties in San Francisco, California, New York, Providence, Rhode Island, and Glasgow, Scotland, this holiday was created to celebrate what is extraordinary about you.

3.     Get a bunch of friends together to watch a good movie. “God’s Not Dead,” “Mom’s Night Out,” and “Courageous” are great movies without all the romance.

There’s no end to what you can come up with. All it takes is a little imagination. And once you start sending out the invitations, you’ll discover you have a lot more single friends than you think.

So rejoice in being single. Enjoy being able to make any decision you want without checking with another. And most importantly, be happy you get total control over the remote.

Award winning author Kathryn J. Bain, finally stepped out into the self-publishing realm with a short fiction piece, The Visitor, in 2014. Quite a feat for someone who considers herself technologically challenged.

The release of her latest mystery, One Last Breath, brings her number of released books to seven.

She has garnered several awards, including Second and Third Place in the Heart of Excellence Readers’ Choice Award and First Place in the Royal Palm Literary Award for Inspirational Fiction.

She was the President of Florida Sisters in Crime from 2010-2012 and is currently the Public Relations Director for Ancient City Romance Authors. Kathryn has also been a paralegal for over twenty years and works for an attorney who specializes in elder law.

Kathryn grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 1981, she moved to Boise, but it apparently wasn't far enough south, because two years later she headed to Jacksonville, Florida and has lived in the sunshine ever since.
