Virginia Tenery visits Lagniappe today to discuss her latest release, "The Watchman."
Virginia, tell us about your current release.
The Watchman is my second
novel with the Pelican Book Group, and also the second novel I wrote in my
writing journey. I fell in love with Noah Adams, the main character. Noah is a
noble hero facing dark memories from his past with faith and humor. I try to
infuse my stories with a stellar supporting cast and Noah has some very special
friends to aid him as he tries to rescue the abused family of a powerful judge.
If you knew ahead of time your book would benefit only one
person on their spiritual journey, would you still write it?
Absolutely. One person’s salvation is worth whatever effort
it takes on our part. That’s what the great commission is all about.
Do you feel pressured to compromise your standards in
order to reach a larger audience or be more successful?
Not at all. I don’t claim to be called to write, but I do
believe my inspiration and any talent I have is a gift from God. I just write
what’s on my heart and for His glory.
How do you push past the fear of your writing being
average and be bold enough to sell it to a publisher?
LOL, I pray a lot and
remind myself that I write for His glory and therefore it has to be the best I
can do. No exceptions. I’ve been fortunate that my work has been well received.
Do you have your plotline and character development
already laid out before you begin writing a book, or do they develop as you
write?
A little of both. I always have the plot and characters
outlined in my head before I set down to write a novel, but I’m flexible and
open to changes as the story progresses.

When Detective Noah Adams meets the abused son of a powerful judge, he knows he must intervene, and fast. The violence is escalating, and even Noah’s special gifts may not prevent the unthinkable.
Relentlessly pursuing two cases, Noah receives a chilling message: Cody’s deranged father has taken his son and it’s up to Noah to follow the judge’s twisted trail to find the boy before it’s too late.
Corrupt city officials, a missing socialite, an attempted murder, and a rescue in the middle of a blizzard entangle Noah in the most complicated case of his career. A case that will mean his ultimate redemption or will take him back into the dark history that haunts him.
